Serial Number question

There seems to be some confusion as to what the suffix letters indicate on the
engine and chassis numbers of Rootes group cars. From the 'Bible' on the
subject, the Vehicle Identification Schedule, issued by the Service Department
for their own use, it states;-
 
The first letter L indicates the vehicle was L.H.D. Export.
The second letter R indicates the vehicle was a Roadster.
The third letter X indicates it was Non Standard.
The third letter O indicates it was Standard.

I will try and find out what the Non Standard bit means and will let you know.

If there is call for a full identification list to be published on the Alpine
pages, I will submit it.
