OK, now I've done it. The administrative stuff for the Alpines and
Tigers lists was getting to be too much for me to handle manually, so
I have implemented the SmartList mailing list manager to run the
Alpines list. I chose Alpines to be the guinea pig because it is
lower volume than the Tigers list. If all goes well, the Tigers list
will be converted, too.
My first choice was Majordomo, but I couldn't get it to run right on
Intergraph's version of Unix.
If all goes as planned, the change should be invisible to the users of
the list. The big advantage will be for me in that the software
should handle 98% of the administrative tasks.
One possible problem area: I've enabled the anti-spam feature of
SmartList, which means that only subscribers can mail to the list. If
you find that you can't send anything to the list, let me know
immediately.
Another useful feature that SmartList provides is a digest. If you
want to receive a single daily message instead of individual messages
throughout the day, unsubscribe from Alpines and subscribe to
Alpines-d. The digest will be mailed at 5:00am USA Central Time.
To subscribe/unsubscribe from Alpines, send the appropriate message to
alpines-request(at)autox.team.net.
To subscribe/unsubscribe from Alpines-d, send to
alpines-d-request(at)alpine.b17a.ingr.com. Eventually, there will be an
address for alpines-d on autox.team.net, but it's not set up yet.
