Could be a U-joint, too.
Have you got oil in the rear end? It tends to seep out over time even if in
good condition. If the front bearing was going out, I think there'd be
enough endplay that you'd be visibly losing oil by now.
It also could be that the bolts holding the crown wheel are coming loose ( a
VERY common occurance). If so, one or more of the bolts will eventually
break off and jam up the works for good.
