I used to own a '74 Capri with a 2.0 liter. It was a great car that never
got any attention. It ran well and handled surprizingly well.
The Capri transmission shifted well but it was not a toploader transmission.
The gearshift was mounted directly to the floor and linkages ran from the
shifter down to the side of the tranmission where the shifter arms were
located.
It would probably be a good donor vehicle for a 2.0 liter conversion because
you could locate the shifter where you needed it in the Alpine and
modify/cut/wield/cuss the linkages into properly fitting the transmission.
BTW, the front Calipers and the rear wheel cylinders are exactly the same on
the Alpine and the Capri (at least on the '74 model Capri that is). I know
you can interchange the front pads between the cars but I'm not sure about
the rear shoes.
Something I forget to mention when comparing the 2.0 liter to the 2.3 liter
conversion, the 2.0 liter fits better. The 2.3 liter fits good but it is
very tight in some places. The 2.0 liter does not require as much work to
install and does not push the cooling system as hard as the 2.3 liter does.

'66 Sunbeam Alpine - a.k.a. "Puff the Magic Dragon"; named so because
everytime you shift gears she puffs smoke.
'67 Sunbeam Alpine - just for parts, just in case
