I have just been snooping under the bonnet (sorry, hood!) of a Series I
and, blow me down, the chassis/lubrication plate has both the chassis
number and colour code stamped on it. Evidently a case of Rootes
production inconsistencies. This car's chassis number began B901..... so
it would appear to be a later car than Robert's and Howard's. Perhaps
there was a change midway through production.

"Mark" Alpines and Sunbeam-Talbot saloons use a plate similar to the one
Robert describes. Does anyone out there have a Series I or II Rapier? I
also found a Rapier III convertible with provision for a colour code on
its plate, but none was stamped.

Incidentally, the Series I in question (a right hand drive car) had the
suffix LRRO. What does the extra letter mean? And don't anyone suggest
dual controls!
