Relax, Howard, there is no color code stamped anywhere. Rootes didn't
begin adding color codes until after the Series I. The lube plate
(held on by four screws!) has the chassis number and body number.
Mine is unfortunately faded completely, only the stamped numbers are left.
There's also a body number on an oval plate on the right rear of the
engine compartment. My car also has the chassis number stamped in the
body below that, but I don't know if that is original.
I ran into the same problem, no one believed me when I couldn't find
a color code. My car has been painted at least four different colors
and I still don't know the name of the original color.
