I just finished talking to the guy who owns the Series 1 racing Alpine
now for sale. It sounds like a neat car. It has never been street
registered. It apparently came out of Hollywood Sportscars. There were
two of them - usually campaigned under the numbers 67 and 69 (he didn't
say which one this is but that the number is still on it). It has
"MacAffie" wheels (I don't know what those are), which he claims were
original racing wheels for Alpines. His father, Chuck Willis, raced the
car for years, along with Pete Fiala and Max Magestee (both names as he
pronounced them). His father was the owner of CRW Racing. The original
racing engine he pulled out because it was blown. He did not say if he
still had it. He does have two 1725 engines to go with. It has a welded
Tiger rear-end. AND HERE IS THE REAL KICKER, it was the Alpine raced in
the movie The Love Bug! I didn't even remember there was one. I guess I
need to go back and watch it again. He did not suggest a price after my
subtle request for one. The car is here in Los Angeles.
Does anyone have any more info on this car or its history?
