I am looking for a Ford 4 or 5-speed tranny for my Alpine/ Mustang II 2.8L, v-6
conversion. How does one recognize the Borg-Warner 4-speed from a Mustang
('74-'78 or '80's)? I have seen 5-speed Mustangs advertised in the paper that
are from mid-'80's years; Will these Mustang 5-speeds work into the
conversion?? Are there differences between the mustangs and the recommended
'84-later T-bird Turbo Coupe T-54 trannies. Do the Mustang 4-bangers (as well
as the Turbo T-bird) and the 2.8 v-6 share the same flywheel housing?? Thanks
for any help on these questions.
Tomorrow I am going to try to start my Alpine engine which has been sitting
since about 1977. Last night I pulled the plugs and sprayed a light penetrating
oil (not WD-40) into the cylinders. I successfully turned the engine over by
hand to see if it was locked. Now to go and buy a battery.......
