Borg warner has external shifter linkage, the puny trans has an
integral shifter. I have the Borg Warner in my Series V/2.8L. I had
to make the transmission tunnel larger to accomodate it. Its worth
it however.

If they bolted to a 2.6-3.0L 60 degree V6, they should all fit. The
bell housing pattern was unchanged.

Nope. The 4 cyl motor was a US ford motor and the V6 was a German
Ford motor. They have completely different bell housing patterns.
