My concern is with the 'mysterious shorts from under the dash' and who
they belonged to. Maybe Mr. Lucas is missing a pair.

Subject: Uh Oh! Smoke from under the dash!

I heard of the Lucas legends; mysterious shorts from under the dash and all the
hopes and dreams of British Motoring gone up in smoke! Well I almost had one of
these experiences today, and luckily I think I found the problem before it got
out of control.

A lose bullet connector from the turn-signal / horn harness shorted out to
chassis. The female end, providing the current was still making contact, but the
male end was exposed enough to ground out. When I went to start my MkV Alpine a
puff of smoke came from under the dash, and the turn signal started to flash
without the lever being moved. I quickly looked under the dash, and eventually
found the short. I think in the process, the turn signal fuse burned out because
now I have no signals.

Here's my question: Where's the turn signal fuse?

Thanks!
Tom
