I dealt with this situation this weekend. The blower intake is located directly between the two vents directly
in front of the windscreen. It is a direct verticle drop to a screen and the blower. I crawled under the
dash. Took out the mounting bracket that holds the blower in place, dropped the blower down and promptly got a
face full of thirty years of more of dead lizard skins, mouse leavings, leaves, sticks, branches, and a few
items I could not identify but might have been related to Jimmy Hoffa. This space holds quite a bit of stuff
so you might want to put a drop cloth down unless you want to spend a lot of time with a vacuum cleaner (hint,
hint).
Once it was back in place I was absolutely amazed at the amount of air that could come through the blower and
how much better it sounded. If your blower is ailing it looked to be an easy job to take the motor out and
down to your local shop, but try this simple fix first. This also explained the mysterious fogging problem we
were having. For a good week after a rain the windows would fog with the defroster on, but not when it was
off. I was pulling all my air through about four inches of saturated woody material that was acting as a
sponge.
