Looks like you may have one of those early 70s J.C. Whittney Solid State
ignition systems. They still used the points, so other than getting some
more dwell, these systems still suffered from points wear.
This system may be a Capacitive Discharge ignition, in which case you should
not re-conect the ballast wire, doing so could release the smoke from your
Lucas wiring.
Word of advice....
Replace the "Box" with some other form of electronic ignition.
Sure this one still works, but there are way better systems available today,
that
do not use points, that will allow you to use your ballast setup "better
starting".
