Well, I've sat back & watched long enough. Guess it's time I told my
story...
I am 34, married to an incredible woman (Debbie), and living in the Los
Angeles area (Whittier). My wife just gave birth to our first child, a
boy (Nathaniel), just six weeks ago. It has been and continues to be
the greatest experience of my life. I am a campus police officer at a
small private university. I am aspiring (and interviewing) to be a
true peace officer with any agency that will take me (except for LAPD).
I have a BA in Psychology and hope to work as a criminal psychologist
someday after I go back and get my PhD. I love cars, especially old
ones, but I'm dying to get a Boxster! I'm a self-taught mechanic and
I've worked on just about every part of my car except for the tranny.
I love restoration as a hobby so I guess that's why it doesn't pain me
too much to see my car just sitting in the garage an empty shell. I
also enjoy shooting sports (especially high powered airguns), mountain
biking, backpacking, off-roading, and writing music.
I bought my '67 Alpine SV in '89 shortly after I moved here from
northern Virginia (can't wait to move back). I had no idea what I was
buying at the time, I just wanted a rag top. Drove it for a couple of
years until it started falling apart. I decided I would restore it.
That was some six years ago and my Alpine still sits forlorn in my
garage, begging for completion. She's about 60% complete. My only
major tasks left are the chrome and machining. She's a beautiful,
mirror finish Forest Green (code 86, I think). She's equipped with
overdrive (added by someone, not original) and the Smith's clock. I'm
looking for a period radio to finish her out inside. On the outside
I'd like to add some Lucas foglamps. Smitty, of Smitty's Sunbeam in
San Diego, has been of tremendous help to me in my restoration
endevours. Many a time he let me sleep in his shop when I'd drive down
to utilize his tools for a weekend. He is, without a doubt, the
greatest font of knowledge that I know of with regard to Alpines. Also
he has supplied me with just about every used part I ever needed. I
love my Alpine and just about anything else British (I dream of Jag
3.8s Mk II's at night). Hopefully I'll finish her before my son learns
how to drive. Besides, I have a '60 Chevy pickup waiting in the wings
for restoration.
Well, that's about it. Don't want to be too long winded...
