.040 is about it.
Beyond that, you'll be using some body else's pistons, and you will have
the same problem as was described in the original "copper head gasket"
thread.
The problem is that bores larger than .040 over will interfere with the
sealing of the
head gasket.
There instances where boring to beyond .040 is desirable [such as for
more displacement, or for higher compression ratio].
It is for these reasons why I would even consider such Alpine blasphemy.
With so many blocks available today at thier max overbore, there must be
something
that can be done to seal off the head.
Phil Lebrun has suggested using "Steel-Shim Gaskets" as opposed to solid
copper
head gaskets.
I am sure that these are available for the Ford V8, but does anyone know
of any for the 4cyl Rootes?
Any other ideas?
