When soldering cables, please keep in mind that you must "bend the steel
wires wide open" before soldering. After that you just work the joint neat
with a fine file.

This is a routine (?) job for motor bikers. It is described in almost all
DIY books.

If you dont forge the cable wires open, one day the solder joint traits
you. If it is a brake cable, ...
