That's Jack's own personal Series II Alpine, registered "ALP 10", in the ad .
Jack's relationship with Rootes was extensive. Not only was he a main dealer
for Rootes, but he appeared in many publicity shots for them with various
models. There's a great piece of sales literature put out in 1961 entitled "The
Sunbeam Story" and two of its pages are devoted to Jack's quotes about the
Rapier and the Alpine, along with pictures of the cars in racing situations and
Rootes racing successes. Soon after that particular ad broke, he appeared on the
May 1962 cover of Autocar with "ALP 10", but now fully tricked out with many of
the available options for the Alpine, including the "bonnet motif", a
stupid-looking raised chrome spear going straight down the middle of the hood.
Great picture though, and in full color!
