One thing to be on the watch for.... the ground wires. I had a few
problems with the ground harness that feeds all the boxes at the back of the
engine comp. when I was running the stock alternator. If the ground wire is
suspect, make up a new ground harness, and ground it well to that bolt on the
cowl.
I have, however, heard that running an alternator with an ammeter is
risking the alternator if the gauge fails.... I use a voltmeter - I changed
the gauge face on a SUN voltmeter to match my other gauges. But, then again,
I also have a 90 amp Bosch alternator in my car, and am almost through with
the R&D to make a tech tip. Still one flaw to work out, but it works GREAT. I
can use my lights, wipers, heater, all at the same time! Makes rainy travel
so much more pleasant......

Will post to the list when I finish the tech tip.... in the meantime, keep
your eyes open for a used alternator from a 85-92 VW Golf or Jetta with AC.

PS.....The installation is 100% reversible, should you want to return to the
stock setup!
