I just acquired two more S. V. Alpines, one with a Ford 2.3 L.
transplant. I now have three bodies, two engines and one mad as hell
wife. The Alpine engine has the number 1980959 B cast into the block.
A tag attached with two screws has the date 10 1 66. Also cast into the
block is the number 1724. (I thought these were 1725 cc engines)
My cars' vin numbers are:
B 395002810 LRX
B 395017396 LXR
B 395007905 OD LXR (the one with the Ford engine)
I understand the alpha code following the numbers but do not know how to
match the numeric part to the engine. Do any of these vin numbers match
the engine number? Is there a registry of vin/engine numbers and where
would I find it?
