My Alpine is re-engined with a motor out of a '69 baby barracuda (Alpine
GT). I didn't realize it when I bought it (along with a lot of other
stuff! ;-) . It would have made a nice bargaining point though. I wish my
#'s matched but I bought the car for fun and I get just as much fun per
mile with unmatched numbers.*
* Discalimer - Statement is technically untrue since I haven't really
driven it any "fun" miles, only "fix it" miles.
Therefore, Fun Units/ 0 miles = DIVISION BY 0 ERROR
Good news is that my car is coming out of the shop today or tommorrow. It
has been there for 2 months awaiting service. It needed front pads
(disintegrated), flex hoses (gummy and deteriorated one way valves), rear
wheel cylinder (leaked onto my....), rear shoes relined, front calpier
rebuild (stuck and corroded), undo the 1970's electronic ignition and
return to orignal Lucas coil, points, and condensor (the electronic
ignition I had still used points and a condensor. I don't know what it was
supposed to do. Either did the guy working on my car.)
I can't believe I am excited about dropping a sizable chunk of change for
this but springtime is here and I'm ready to roll!

Maybe its time to start the 'AAC', Alpine Authentication Committee, to
ensure that Alpines have the correct engines and tags attached by the
original rivets. We don't want no stinkin' re-engine cars.

Paul,
The engine serial nuber originally matched the chassis number (the VIN).
Therefore, the number B 395002810 should be found stamped into a small
section of the block facing up right in front of the oil filter. Because
of location, it might be covered with grime. If the number isn't the same,
the engine has been swapped. Or the bodies been swapped. Oh, this isn't
the Tiger mail list, sorry.. Look for you numbers where I indicated and
somebody will probably post you telling when your car was made. I know I
got a '65 Christmas car. for better or for worse.
What ARE you going to do with all these Alps????
Sell one to pay for your divorce lawyer.
