Chuck, I have deleted your posting by mistake.
I did read my Alpine Guide last night and can advise you of the
following.
There is a table in the guide that if you take 40 thou. off a Std. 1592
cc head, you increase the compression ratio from 9.1 to 9.5. It also
states that the max. you can take off this head is 60 thou.
Dick mentions that you have to elongate the side plate holes and I can
attest to that. I had a similar problem to yours and eventually ended up
finding a re-conditioned head ( Yes Barrie it did belong to you, once!!)
which has worked fine ever since. Did I understand that you have to skim
the block as well?
Anyway, you can always tow it the the concourse at Portland - they don't
judge whether it runs or not !! (%-(
