Hi Beamers,

I had similar problems with mine (a electronical one from a series IV)
What I did was (If I remember correctly):

get the tach out and remove the casing.
Then have a look at the (black) capacitors, they are so old that they
are usually cracked replace them and sometimes the PTC (positive temp coefficient
resistor) (a round one, disc shaped) is cracked as well (just discard that, the tolerance
of the tach is huge anyway for this nice temperature compensation.
Then drill a hole in the casing so you can adjust the potmeter.
put the casing back on.
then put the tach back in (don't forget the small clip of the white wire)
it's a pick-up coil from the ignition.
Then buy or get a timinglight with rev counter, or just a rev counter
connect it to the ignition and put it in front of the screen so you can see it.
Run the engine and adjust the potmeter similar to the rev counter/timing light
on let's say 800 revs and 2000 revs and tape off the hole in the tach casing
and you're there !!

good luck !
