The tranny oil type discussion has gone on before. Some run the
Engine oil, other like me, ran or still run the 80-90w gear oil. I
always felt that British Transmissions were no different than ours. ie.
A bunch of engaged gears spinning on bronze bushings and bearing all
dealing with heavy loads. This sounds like Gear oil territory to me?
Which is why I always used 80-90w gear oil, because thats what it
is...The only problem I saw was that when it was real cold <+25 degrees
F, I had to let the tranny warm up before I could shift smoothly. This
just meant idling in neutral for about 3-5 minutes. Other than this, no
problems at all. The tranny was in excellent shape when I removed it
from the car with the Melted piston.
