Someone at the club here, Classic Sunbeam only lists WIA overhaul kits for
S3 (but you have explained that it's a 'one kit fits all' situation), and
the DPPO owned the car from when it was quite young, and he says he didn't
change carbs.

My ID plate says my car is a roadster, it doesn't have the big back seat, it
has rubber mats under the carpet, and it does have a soft-top. I'm pretty
confident it's a roadster (big :-)

You betcha! This is my pet theory. Cars for Australia may have been fitted
with WIAs and paper air filters because of the hot, dusty conditions.
I will explore this further at the club meeting on Monday night.
If I find a second hand set of carbs, how much play is acceptable in the
throttle shafts?
Am I correct in saying that the shafts usually wear before, or at the same
time, as the carb body? Hence any carb with loose throttle shafts is a carb
with knackered throttle shafts?
Cheers,
Paul.
