I got my head back from Smitty's last weekend and put it on this week. I
drove it around for a while during the week and I took it to work today.
Boy that new speed limit sure makes the engine rev high! I was at 4500
to 5000 RPM on the freeway. Car seems to be running ok (no water loss)
but I do have a slight problem with it running warm (doesn't overheat
but runs around 190-200, it does go down to 180 at times). I'll be
checking the timing and adjusting the carbs this weekend.
The carb mixtures are set at idle so it idles fine but when I'm running
at highway speeds I feel a slight misfire like the engine is running too
lean. If I pull out the choke, the engine runs smoother and has better
throttle response. Why would pulling the choke on these carbs make a
difference? Does the play in the warm throttle shafts cause the engine
to run lean at high RPM? Or would this affect it more at an idle? I
would like to fix the carb damper vent on my 150CD carbs as mentioned in
RSB 68-14. Are those plugs available anywhere? Is there another way to
plug those holes without messing up the carbs?
I also replaced the brake master cylinder and re-built the servo unit.
The brakes work fine but every time I step on the pedal quickly, I hear
a small pop coming from the servo unit (I tried it with the engine off
and it still makes that noise). If I step on the pedal slowly, it works
smoothly. What could be causing the popping sound? There's also a screw
at the front cover of the servo unit that does something but I can't
find any mention of it in the manual. What the heck is it for and how
are you supposed to adjust it?

(well, at least its running...kind of)
