Radiator hoses, temp sender

Hi all,

First a tidbit of info:
The temp sender for Alpines 3-5 and Tiger 1&2, is the same as that used
on Humber Super Snipe, Hillman Imp and, wait for it, Jag XJ12 to 1974!
That last one let me buy a sender from a local instrument repair shop.
The part was a VDO brand, part number 320-045. Don't use 320-046 because
although it has the same parameters, it is a steel bodied version. The
one to get is the brass one. Many thanks to Curt at Classic Sunbeam for
the original Smiths part number.

Now to a couple of questions:
The short straight section of hose coming from the water pump on the
distributor-side of the motor in my Series 3 (called a "bypass" hose I
think) looks like normal heater hose. If so why do the parts suppliers
list this as a special part?

The hose from the water pump to my twin Zenith manifold looks like it
should be a special part, but I can't find it listed by a couple of
parts suppliers I have checked. Is this one just normal heater hose too?

Cheers,
Paul.
