I had this problem years ago on my Series V also. I had just re-built
the carbs and put a newly rebuilt distributor for better timing on my
igntion spark. To top it off I put a shiny new chrome inline gas filter
that had a glass tube you could see thru. It looked very nice but after
running on the freeway at 60-70 MPH the car started sputtering. My first
thought was distributor, then carbs. I noticed that if I slowed down the
car would run fine then I would speed up again and a few seconds later,
it would start missing again. After getting home and checking
everything, I found out that the inline filter was too restrictive and
not allowing the fuel to flow at the rate required to fill the carbs at
freeway speeds. I got rid of that $15.00 filter and bought a little $.89
plastic one for a VW and the car has not had that problem again. It
sounds like you might be having the same type of problem. The engine
might be starving for fuel. Check your fuel filter and your fuel pump.
Also check the inlet line to you fuel pump to make sure it is not
restricted. One of my friends had rust from the tanks in his fuel line
and had to remove both tanks and have them boiled out.

Hope you find it,
