I had a similar experience with my series V. After changing many things on
the engine including the fuel filter, dist. cap and rotor, new sparks plugs
and wires. It still happened, I rebuilt the carbs, added new floats in
carbs, same problem. Finally some kind soul on the alpine list ( who I
don't remember, to thank) told me to check the intake manifold bolts. Sure
enough they were loose. Apparently they become loose and air gets sucked
in and it throws off the mixture. I retorqued the bolts and had no more
problems. Be careful not to get them too tight or they'll strip. Tighten
the middle bolt first then the outside ones. Hope this helps Regards
