RE>>Alpine Flywheels 8/18/97
Thanks to everyone for all their help but now I have another question. Are
all the bell housings interchangable and have the same dimensions? Tom

Thank you.
I am at this point on my race motor, so this is what I dug up.
I dont know anything about the 1494 motor, but I assume that it is
identical to that of the SII and SIII 1592 motor.
The SII and SIII flywheels used the "big" clutch that accepts the 8 1/2
disc.
The late SIII and SIV flywheels were identical but used the smaller
lighter clutch.
The SV motor used the 7 1/2 peewee clutch, and the flywheel is a few
pounds lighter than the earlier bits.
All the flywheels will interchange on all year cars, but the differences
in clutches causes problems with the TO bearing due to the different
clutch heights. This is easily overcome by swaping the appropriate
TO fork and TO bearing from the year of clutch that you use.
The SV "1725" flywheel is a great choice, as it is the lightest of the
production pieces, but the clutches are not too beefy.
Have it re-drilled to use an earlier clutch, and you will be in fat
city.
