Chris,
I recently rebuilt my rearview mirror. The glass was already broken,
so I can't tell you how to remove yours without breakage. However, I
can tell you that my glass was glued to the plastic with what appeared
to be a couple of pieces of two-sided tape. I had to cut a hole in the
plastic backing in order to completely disassemble it for repainting.
This has had no effect on function or appearance and the new crinkle
paint looks great. I went to a glass shop and had a new piece cut for
about $8. I painted it first and then replaced the rivets in back. I
hear that some were originally equipped with convex glass, but that it
is nearly impossible to find. Anyway, my mirror looks fantastic in its
finished form, just like new.
