Over the next month or two, I'm hoping to finish the bodywork on the Ser
III. To finish, I'm about to take the axle and springs off and repair
chassis legs, etc. Some questions arise...
What is the correct gauge of steel for rear chassis legs ?
I've two axles of unknown origin, one for wires, one for regular wheels.
I'm not bothered what I'll use.
I just want to get it running a.s.a.p.
I understand that ser V axle casing is different from III and IV. Is this
true.? Are there any other differences in axles i.e. handbrake cable mounts
/ brake backplates? How can I tell what I've got by inspection?
(I'm *not* too worried about ratios, I just want to order the right
oil-seals, bearings and brake cables)
finally, (and perhaps controversially)
Any good reason why I shouldn't use *Lockheed* 9inch rear drums from Hunter
etc.?
They measure up identically to Girling, with all correct holes/flanges etc,
as far as I can see. I can get them new and boxed for less than a quarter
of the price of 'recon' Alpine/Girling units.
I'm not keen on mix and match brakes, but if they *are* interchangeable....
Thanks in advance
Andy, Glasgow.
