Seat construction

Hi Folks,

I know this is probably a very boring question, but I am still trying to
find out what is the shape of the cardboard piece on the back of an
Alpine seat? If one of you would be so kind as to go out to your car
and feel at the base of the seat back where it connects to the seat
bottom I would be most appreciative. You should be able to tell if the
very lower back upholstery is firmly supported by a cardboard backing
piece (between the upholstery and the metal seat frame) at the outside
corners right by the metal plate where the two parts fit together.
There is clearly such a piece over the entire seat back, but I can not
tell if it follows the curvature of the frame leaving a void under the
upholstery at the corners or if it goes out to the metal mounting
plate. Mine was so rotted away that disassembling the seat did not
reveal its original shape.

Thanks,
Steve Van Ronk
