Alpine, and Hillman compadres,

Another thought on Grant Crough's 8.93/1 compression ratio.

I recently worked with a friend on a turbo subaru 2.2 boxer engine.

The engine came from a Japanese car "from japan".
It was a low milage "pull", then shipped as many low milage
japanese engines are, to the USA.

The engine had 9.0/1 CR off the bat, The engine was not
even opened but had a tad rougher cam, and new valve
springs installed to allow for a higher operating RPM.

Oh, did I mention the turbo and intercooler?

It was dialed in to 8PSI boost on the wastegate.

The engine ran very well, and produced 350BHP at 8200 RPM.

The 9.0/1 compression ratio ran excelent on even 10 PSI boost.

Now, this engine had a complete engine control system "TECH II"
that allowed spark retard at the higher boost levels, but the system
works flawlessly if programmed properly BEFORE you melt the
pistons down.

Also, the subaru engine was so smooth at 8000 RPM, it looked
like it was idleing.

It was really something to see a motor making 350 BHP on a
dyno, and seem to be so unloaded.

The engine screamed ....
"Give me more boost, I can take it!"
"I wont meltdown, Trust Me!".
