This may or may not have been proper, but several years ago when I rebuilt
my Imp I had a similar problem. We honed the bores and ended up being
almost to where we probably should have just had them bored .10 over. At
the time I didn't have the money, so I bought .10 over rings and filed them
to the proper end gap for each of the cylinders. Placed them on the stock
bore pistons and ran the car for a few years.

It unfortunately rusted beyond repair and has since gone to that big scrap
yard in the sky, or is the ground?
