By "roughly adjust" could you mean "add a thou to the spec clearance and set that way?"

One thing I've wondered about, but never seen mentioned, is the right amount of clearance to use when setting valves cold. When I did mine for the first few times last summer, I just figured that the hot clearances specified in the Manual could be approximated cold by adding 1-thou to intake and 2-thou to exhaust, on the premise that hot metal expands (and clearances contract).

Now that I am facing this adjustment post-rebuild, I'd like to get it right.
