RE: Electric radiator fan for alpine

I had a problem with my car heating up both in traffic and at speed. I put a 4 core radiator in the car and then I was fine at speed, but not at idle or in traffic. I then built a temporary shroud out of sheet metal and riveted/taped it into place. After that I was fine even at idle in 100 degree heat. It may be that the 3 and 4 core radiators just don't move enough air to cool them with the mechanical fans at idle. My fan is about 1.5 inches from the radiator. I have removed the goofy shroud and am going to try installing a spacer to move the fan within 0.5 inches (1 cm for those of you who use a rational system) to see if that doesn't fix the problem.

What is the fan to radiator distance in people's cars that don't overheat in 100 degree weather versus the distance in cars that do overheat? Is there a correlation?
