Hi Lauri,

I've been playing around with these regulators a lot without much success. What I used was the Haynes workshop manual and followed the technical part with success but after a while (a day or a week) I had trouble again. (first check the dynamo itself, see haynes manual for details) I'm talking about the three coil regulators of Lucas which are the best (rb340) the two coil ones (like the Unipoint are even worse) Sometimes the resistors at the back are burned out. The best Lucas ones are the ones with the resistors which are covered with insulation material instead of being open where you can see the resistive wires. Best thing is to buy a new one although sometimes new ones are bad as well, either because they have not been stored dry or are set for a slightly different dynamo. But setting them up is easier and more reliable. e.g. The imps have different dynamos's for 2 headlamp output or four headlamp output and so the rb340 regulator have been matched.

Hope this helps

My generator does not generate voltage. =46irst it worked very roughly, carge on-off-on... etc. I sanded out peaks from regulator contacts, and it worked a week. When it died again, I replaced the regulator wit a brand new one (Lucas). Now I have no charge with either of these regulators. Generator works as an electric motor when connected straight to the battery. It does jump around the garage as a starter motor does, but it accelerates to 500 - 1000 rpm (appr.) in few seconds.

Has anyone any good adwise for rapid trouble-shooting? (This is a trouble that makes me not shoot just any object.)
