Are overdrive units (rebuilt or used) available for a 1967 Series V
Alpine? If so, from where and for how much?
If not, is it possible to remove the overdrive unit? what is needed
run between the transmission and the shaft connected to the
differential?

Sounds like a prime candidate for the Volvo OD swap.
I can't speak from personal experience, as (knock wood) my OD has been trouble free, but the consensus on the list is that a Volvo OD unit will bolt on. You only need use the rear OD half, no the gearbox-to-OD adapter, but it will require changing the front end of the driveshaft. A question to the group, here - since the U-joint size is the same, can you just put a driveshaft flange from an MGB on the Alpine shaft, without having to get a driveshaft welded??
Hope this helps!
