In a message dated 98-07-29 09:06:18 EDT, you write:

<< Are overdrive units (rebuilt or used) available for a 1967 Series V Alpine? If so, from where and for how much? If not, is it possible to remove the overdrive unit? what is needed run between the transmission and the shaft connected to the differential? >>

Sounds like a prime candidate for the Volvo OD swap.

I can't speak from personal experience, as (knock wood) my OD has been trouble free, but the consensus on the list is that a Volvo OD unit will bolt on. You only need use the rear OD half, no the gearbox-to-OD adapter, but it will require changing the front end of the driveshaft. A question to the group, here - since the U-joint size is the same, can you just put a driveshaft flange from an MGB on the Alpine shaft, without having to get a driveshaft welded??

Hope this helps!
