Months ago, I looked into rebuilding the servo for my alpine. I kept losing fluid from the reservoir, but none was leeking onto the floor - It was leeking into the canister of the booster. After getting everything apart, I could see some pitting in one of the long bores. It is difficult to see into the bore, and only after a half hour with very fine steel wool was I able to get a good indication as to the extent of the pitting.
Perhaps the servo could have been rebuilt, I don't know. The pitting was noticeable, but not severe. I figured that my brakes were on the line and went the safe route. Someone with more experience may have been able to judge differently. I purchased a new servo from Sunbeam Specialties (last I checked, they were no longer available).
My suspicioin is if your spring has rusted through in 3 locations, there will be a significant amount of pitting in the bore and your unit will not be rebuildable. Maybe you were lucky and oxidation attacked your spring and not the bore???
Perhaps some others can share their wisdom here regarding the rebuildability of servos? If some out there feel that my servo could have been rebuilt, I'd prefer to offer the servo as a complete rebuildable unit. If not, I'd be happy to send you a spring (you could send me some $ for the shipping).

Hi Guys,
There was a little mistake in the tacho repair story which you probably noticed allready 100 rpm should have been ofcourse 1000.
Anyway onto another matter: I'm currently rebuilding a second girling 5 inch servo unit and when I took that apart I noticed that the 14 cm long spring had been rusted through at three places and as it doesn't come with the servo repair kit I'm desparately looking for one. Does anyone of you have such a spring in one of your old parts boxes perhaps and willing to sell ?
Another query is, the servo which I'm currently using on the Alpine seems to have a side effect as now the brakes seem to bind after braking, or at least are not released directly. I checked the brake pads front/rear but they are ok, all renewed as well as the internals of that brake servo.
Thanks Bert
