Well, I've had my Alpine SV for 6 weeks now and thought I'd only putt around
at 35mph or so. But in the last week or so I've been groovin' that highway
scene, since here in Northern Illinois we only have a few more weeks of
topdown weather.
I was even planning to go to the British Car gathering in Des Plaines, IL
yesterday, but after a couple of days of racing around, decided that the
little car's (my sons have named him Herbie, the only car name they know)
motor was going to blow up.
The tach only works sporadically (10% of the time, and who knows how accurate
that is), the speedometer reminds me of my 4th grade teacher wagging her
finger at me. It reads anywhere from 40-65mph while cruising. And, in 4th gear
at that speed it sounds terrible.
So, here are my questions:
Any ideas about why and how to fix the indifferent tach?
Does everyone's speedometer register such imprecise speeds?
Is it impossible to find a reasonable OD tranny (and is it difficult to
install?)?
I just couldn't drive the old boy the 70 miles or so from home, although I
really wanted to take part in the Brit car show.
Thanks.
