Jim, If I understand correctly, are you saying the wheel splines are pointed when new and not flat like the axle hubs? That will make it hard to determine if the wheel splines are worn. I was told to look for pointed splines as a sign of worn-out hubs.

Tim ---------------Original Message--------------- About 20 years ago I spoke to an old fellow that had been in the wire wheel world, I don't remember how, but either as an occupation or as an enthusiast, and he said that the wheels are Dunlop 4J 13, the same as used on Lotus. He said Rootes used low bidder for the axle splined hub, and they were Italian in origin. He also noted the axle spline portion is peaked rather than square to match the wheel, and he claimed that they were not correctly designed to work together. I never bothered to check, but does anyone know if MG, Triumph, Jaguar and Lotus have peaked hub splines? Jim Leach, Seattle
