I bought my SV Alpine suspecting the brake servo was bad
(brakes grabbed abruptly at the slightest pedal pressure). I
was curious to see if the behavior would deminish if I
disconnected and plugged the vacuum hose and in fact the
brakes worked like any other non-power assist car Ive
driven. I drove the Alpine like this for a few weeks before
winter lay up without any adverse affects. My driving will
mainly be around town and on rural roads and will not
involve freeway miles so I am not anticipating high speed
panic stops. Certainly I want I safe brake system and if
running the car without the servo is unadvisable, I will put
its replacement or rebuild back on the ASAP/Winter To Do
List. Otherwise, I am content to remove it and run without
and eventually replace or rebuild it. Questions: Is this a
bad idea? Is the master cylinder in this car sized
differently than earlier Alpines because it was designed
operate with power assist?
