Hi Paul,
1. I have just measured the impedance, and it seems to be somewhere
between 8 and 10 ohms.
2. If your switch is connected correctly, i.e in accordance with the
wiring diagram, then power for the dash light switch comes from the red
wires which also feed the side lights. So, power should only be
available when the side lights are on (these stay on when the headlights
are on). Power out of the dash light switch should be on the red with
white stripe wires.
