Robert,

        I just completed installing a new wiring harness and these cars are color
coded to a British standard. The brown wire you mention is the main feed
wire from the battery terminal (or where the lead from the battery connects
to the solenoid) and goes to one side of your ammeter. This lead supplies
all the power to everything on the car except to the starter motor. The
"A" terminal of your voltage regulator is connected to the other terminal
of the ammeter with a brown wire with a white tracer. Hope this helps.
