There is no answer all people will buy.
setting the cold lash to the hot lash spec should be OK because it is going
to loosen
a bit in the first few minutes it runs.

After 15 minutes or so, when the engine is somewhat hotter, you can take a
better stab
at the adjustment, that should hold well enough for the remainder of the cam
break-in.

Then after the break-in is complete, you can do a "final" adjustment, then
wait till
the car is roadworthy to finish breaking in the rest of the engine.

As to the cam and valve gear being under load breaking in, the only load on
the valve
train sees is spring and inertial load, so the cam doesnt get any added load
on it when the
engine actually makes power as compared with the same RPM with no engine
load.

Its the speed of the engine that kills the cam and makes it go flat.
