Mystery Solved!!

DUH!!!!

It was so simple. Dang!! Wish I'd discovered it before I'd driven all
the way to San Diego for Smitty to have a look-see.

I guess I shouldn't feel bad. Nobody on the list figured it out, not
even Jarrid, and it took Smitty more than an hour. The giveaway was
when I told him a second time (why didn't he figure it out when I told
him over the phone!) that when I placed a dish under the carb with gas
in it the leak went away.

"Eureka!! The atmospheric vent to the float chamber is clogged." Sure
enough, gunk was glogging the vent. Problem solved. The clog
prevented enough fuel from entering the bowl to lift the float. I
really don't care that I had to drive to San Diego to get it fixed.
I'm just glad it's fixed. But I can't help feeling a little like a
dolt.
