Alpines engines, if original to the car will have a matching ID number to the
chassis number. You can look at our web site (http:www.classicsunbeam.com)
to see which Alpine the engines come from. Various other Sunbeam parts
supplies have the chassis numbers listed in their catalogs as well.
In regard to the transmissions: the have a built date on the drain side of
the casing which will tell you what year it was made. Heads are also marked
with a built date. Take off the valve cover and look toward the center top of
the head. remember that the British use a backwards dating system, the head
may read 66 k 3 which would give it a built date of 11/3/66. Heads also have
a casting number AM-1, AM-2, AM-3 an AM-3 would be a head from a 1725 engine.
Of course you could also check valve size.
