Unless Volvo B18/20 engines were equipped differently than in the U.S.,
They used a 175 CD carburettor.
The bolt pattern is different, and the carb to carb linkage is
set at a different length, so major work would be needed to put them
on.
If you are running rich, pull the air cleaners and slowly lift one piston
then the other. If the idle speed picks up, as you lift the piston, then
that carb is at fault.
A torn diaphragm will cause exactly the symtoms that you describe.
If you have a tear the idle would be "over rich" due to lack of pull
on the diaphargm, and the higher flow at higher RPMs would allow some
suction in the diaphragm, which although rich, may run without misfire.
