A sudden change could also indicate a blown head gasket. Find a friend or
garage that has a cooling system pressure tester.

<< I drive my SV to work everyday and last Thursday I noticed the temperature
gauge climbing when I came to a stop in traffic. (well above the 85C).
Close to the 120C, this is unusual for my Alpine. I live in MA so the
 weather roughly 50F-60F.

I immediately assumed that my thermostat had stuck. I turned on the
heater and popped the hood latch to allow more air flow. The temperature
gauge eventually went down after driving for awhile.

I did replace the thermostat and the radiator cap but I am still having this
temperature climbing in traffic. The condition of the radiator is good
(cleaned about 4 years ago and looks great inside). I did open the
radiator cap and let the car run until the thermostat opened. The fluid
appears to be circulating really well.

 1) Is there anything else I should be checking??? >>
