Series V soft top

I have my new Robbins top , the frame has been sandblasted and
repainted and I'm ready to begin the insanity. I have several sets of
instructions courtesy of Colin Cobb and those who have written them but
a couple questions remain. The 3 straps that connect the frame bows did
not continue to the front rail ( the piece that attaches to the
windshield) on my old top. Do I want them to? Also, I am suspicious of
the connecting hardware for the smaller, round bow. The bow was padded
with foam and covered in gray vinyl material, then the straps were
attached with half round clamps that screwed into the bottom of the bow.
The "clamps" looked eerily like paint scraper blades and the 2 holes
drilled in them were not on center, but they WERE painted gray and had
obviously been on the car a LONG time. Does this sound correct? Should I
attach the new straps in the same manner and continue them to the front
piece? Thanks for any help.
I haven't had an operational top in the 3summers I've owned the car
so this will add a whole new dimension to it's enjoyment. I've had to
leave it home on rain threatening days only to kick myself later because
the day turned out to be beautiful. I can't wait to be all weather
functioning.
