Engine/Wheel Choices

Hi all:

ENGINES: I've been going through some of the boxes of parts that came in
and with Babette. After killing spiders, crickets and cockroaches (the
snake got away somewhere in the car), I found two engines and two
transmissions. How can I tell what I have? According to the last owner,
one engine is supposed to be a 1725 and the other one an earlier one, and
one transmission is supposed to be an all synchro 4 speed.

What is the recommendation from the experts out there about putting a 1725
engine in an earlier Alpine? Does an updated engine destroy any value she
might have? Also, are there any engine parts that should be replaced that
are NOT available for either a 1725 or an earlier engine?

WHEELS: I also found two sets of steel wheels with the same 4-bolt
pattern, one white set with 8 holes and one black set with 12 holes around
the edge. Which is correct for Babette and what are the other ones? Is
the wire wheel option a good idea (assuming I could find any)?

Thanks for the responses about Babette's background. She was born the week
of my birthday!
